Leam Rangers v CLS Amazon Stompers
Squad: Charlotte, Ellie, Eva, Eve, Evie, Hallie, Jasmine, Layla, Lily, Olivia, Oliwia, Willow
Today’s match was another positive sign that the work the girls put in during training is paying off - a big win against a side who beat us back in April.
We started on the front foot and, after a few near misses, Olivia scored with a great long range strike. Oliwia soon added a second with a lovely swivel away from the defender and a cool finish.
The chances kept coming with Eva and Evie linking up nicely on multiple occasions and it wasn’t long before Evie put one of those chances away.
Eva scored soon after, chasing down a long ball from Olivia, keeping it in and firing home from a tight angle. Evie then added her second, showing a nice touch and calm finish following a good cross from Eva.
Usually CLS Amazon Stompers would have brought on an extra player at half-time but their squad was only nine strong, so we offered to withdraw a player to keep the game competitive.
The girls definitely had a taste for goals now though and, almost from kick off, Hallie fought her way past two or three tackles to score from close range. CLSAS then pulled one back.
We continued to push forward with Layla scoring another great goal, running almost the full length of the pitch to beat at least three players before scoring. She’d almost scored in the first half with a near identical run too.
Ellie was also doing well, timing some nice runs forward, and fought hard to score with a nice left foot finish.
CLSAS pulled another back but soon after that Eva scored a great goal herself as she skipped past two defenders down the left wing before finishing in the bottom corner. CLSAS grabbed a late goal near the end.
Another win for the girls with lots of contenders for Girl of the Game - Eva, Evie, Olivia and Oliwia all pushed hard for that. Always a nice problem for the coaches.
However, we thought Layla just edged it as it isn’t every week a player runs the full length of the pitch to beat three or four players and keep their composure to score.
Goals: Olivia, Oliwia, Evie (2), Eva (2), Hallie, Layla, Ellie
Girl of the game: Layla
